Did you know? You Can Use Your Google Chrome Address Bar to Search... Please share #YourComputerTutorSays

I just helped a remote computer client with her computer and was reminded of what normal people know and may not know.

In Windows 10

If you click the search box you are using Microsoft’s Edge regardless of your internet browser preference such as Google chrome

You can search in the address bar of most internet browsers

Ctrl p will print your page if you need a hard copy

Those were three breakthroughs for my remote computer client today.

The Registry is the brain of your Windows computer. Computer viruses invade your Windows computer registry in order to control it. Other issues such as the infamous "The User Profile Service Failed the Logon" which used to take five minutes for a computer repair specialist such as myself to fix until Microsoft stopped backing up the registry to lighten it’s Windows operating system ( Linux anyone?). Now the easiest way to fix a profile error is with your registry backup.

What Else Does Backup By Rick Do Rick?

• Easy to use since it’s written by in home computer tutor and experienced, dual certified teacher J. Richard Kirkham B.Sc. covering all of Oahu
• Backs up Windows computer registry
• Deletes temporary internet files and other trash before copying thus helping to keep your computer fast and efficient
• Backs up all files from your Windows profile on down
• Backs up some hidden files (I believe all but I won’t claim that)
• Back ups from multiple computers are possible since the program uses your profile name as a folder name
• Backs up files to the same directory structure as your computer for easy recoverability
• Restore feature is included
• Syncs not just backs up so you don’t end up with a bunch of old files when you recover
• External hard drive version of Back up by Rick creates redundant backups in case you accidentally deleted a file then did a backup
• Back Up by Rick uses all native programs in Windows so there is no chance of a false positive computer virus warning interfering with your backup and causing you undue worry

Why I Spent Two to Three Times The Amount It Would Have Cost Me to Put a Car Battery in Myself and Hired an Auto Mechanic #YourComputerITSays

Because when I bring my car to my auto repair mechanic he may see or hear something that means nothing to me and end up saving my family or me from being stranded on the road.

This is the same reason you need to have a professional check your computer when you see something different on your screen or hear a noise. What you see or hear could mean something completely different to a computer maintenance and repair specialist such as myself as compared to a normal computer user.

I won’t risk my family with do it yourself. Why would you risk your computer data, files, photos and even your business with do it yourself?

Did you know? Mobile Phone Tip Your T-Mobile Hotspot is Not Really Unlimited... Please share #YourCellPhoneTutorSays

I found that one out the hard way after getting a text from T-Mobile that I was getting close to my full speed limit of 10gb. Once I cross that threshold T-Mobile would then throttle down my “unlimited hotspot” to a speed slow enough it made it almost impossible to get any computer work done. Even just checking email. The data on the cell phone was unaffected.

Before you order an unlimited hotspot ask your cellular provider if they throttle you down (slow you down) after a certain amount of data is used.

One of my Oahu only $9.95 remote computer client called me on a Saturday. Now technically my hours are only Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m HST., but that rarely stops me from helping one of my remote computer clients here on Oahu.

I had set up Google Drive backup and sync on her computer in preparation for when, not if her computer crashes. She got a note in the lower right-hand corner of her screen stating Google Drive could not find her documents folder. I asked her if I could look at her computer screen remotely. She said yes. She double click on the software giving me permission to enter her computer and within five minutes I fixed the problem.

I then proceeded to do some preventative maintenance on her computer clearing out temporary internet files and junk which slow her computer down and cause it to work harder.

What Would it Have Cost Her If She Did Not Have The Foresight To Utilize My Oahu Only Remote Computer Support For $9.95 Per Month?

This service gives her me, a computer troubleshooting expert, my help remotely for 1 hour per month. I would have had two options to help her with her computer problem.

• Make a house call at $95.00 per hour with a minimum of one hour
• Help her remotely at $95.00 per hour with a minimum of one hour.

Both options would have cost her $95.00 for just that one computer fix. Well worth it of course since I’ve also spent time cleaning up my competitors' messes.

I May Be Nuts for Doing This

I admit, I still think I’m a little nuts for offering this remote service to Oahu residents for only $9.95 per month for an hour of my time per month. What I’m depending on is it will help keep my name in front of people’s thoughts when they need their computers’ repaired, cell phone lessons, tablet troubleshooting or printers setup.

Anyhow, the great experiment continues. Don’t worry my fellow islands, United States mainland and our sister state Alaska, I’m working something out for you folks as well.

Aloha and God bless,
Rick
